What we did

We collated all diverse, extraordinary content about and around the FIFA WORLD CUP 2018 on one single website under a special hashtag #WORLDCUPRUSSIA2018 Using this tag, our clients easily found and downloaded the best stories encapsulating the World Cup’s soul, divided into following categories: latest videos, teams, host cities, events, and fever pitch. They were able to access and re-stream live-events and celebrations in just 3 clicks, using our cutting edge LIVE-platform.
Users immersed themselves in the reality of this global festival, and even enjoyed a 360 video of a cosmonaut playing football in space.

How we did it

In order to surf the wave of the World Cup in real time as it swept across Russia, we set up enviable live-positions and world class facilities in all 11 host cities, among them were:
  • A studio right in the heart of Moscow on Manezhnaya Square
  • A live-position in the unofficial epicentre for the fans – Nikolskaya street in Moscow
  • A standup position in Moscow's biggest fanzone
  • A studio on iconic Dvortsovaya Square in St.Petersburg
  • A studio and standup position on the roof of the Four Season hotel, with an incomparable view of the Kremlin
With a huge part of our coverage being all about the people, we encouraged them to play their own part, sharing their uniquely personal experiences using our special app – Ruptly Stringer.

The app's launch was supported by a creative campaign with a popular Brazilian blogger, something of a people’s captain for the Brazilian fans. We were the first brand to collaborate with him. Our ads were seen in airports, cinemas and key digital platforms in Russia.

As a result, inside just one month we had 1,000 active users, who between them uploaded more than 1,200 stories. BTW, we even played a part in the making of two successful internet memes.

As a result

Our content was reached by hundreds of millions of people online and offline.

And our clients were delighted.
Practically all of our videos about football (and we had a lot of those) came from Ruptly. TASS
We at FOX Sports wanted to say a heartfelt thank you for all your help during the 2018 FIFA World Cup! From watch parties to news events to the goofy stories about fans travelling to Russia in a tractor, we very much appreciate all the great content. We couldn’t have done it as well without you. FOX
A lot of relevant and interesting material, such as Mourinho ́s interviews, some relevant SOT’s footage from players. What is most interesting for us are the lives from fans around the world. We could put them on air and in the website real quick. ESPN Brasil

But the thing we are most proud of, is that while the World Cup may have come to Russia, we were able to take it all the way back to the people.
This tournament was recognised as one of the best in FIFA’s history, and we want to believe that we became part of this success.
